Baby Shower Program
Celebrate and support refugee women as they prepare for the arrival of their little ones! Our baby shower is a heartwarming event that brings together volunteers like you to shower these mothers-to-be with love, support, and essential items for their newborns. Welcoming a new baby is a joyous occasion in any culture, and for refugee women, who may have experienced displacement, trauma, or uncertainty, celebrating the arrival of a new baby can be particularly significant. Join us to honor and celebrate the expectant mothers and their growing families, offering moments of joy.
All volunteers are REQUIRED to complete a volunteer application to serve at the Northwest Community Center. We REQUIRE all adults to have a cleared background check. Minors are REQUIRED to submit a reference before they can serve. NO WALK-UPS permitted without a current background check on file.
A baby shower for refugee women offers a platform for cultural exchange and appreciation, as volunteers and refugee families share traditions, stories, and even experiences related to pregnancy, childbirth, and parenting. By embracing diversity and honoring the cultural heritage of refugee communities, volunteers can foster understanding, respect, and inclusion, enriching the collective tapestry of the community.
How you can help:
As a volunteer at our refugee women's Baby Shower, you'll play a vital role in creating a memorable and meaningful experience for refugee mothers-to-be. Here are some ways you can get involved:
• Event Setup — Help decorate the venue, set up tables and chairs, and create a warm and welcoming atmosphere for the baby shower.
• Assistance During the Event — Greet guests, assist with activities and games, and ensure that the event runs smoothly from start to finish.
• Gift Distribution — Help distribute donated baby items, such as clothing, diapers, blankets, and essential baby supplies, to the expectant mothers.
• Support and Encouragement — Offer emotional support, encouragement, and words of kindness to the refugee mothers-to-be, making them feel valued, appreciated, and celebrated.
• Shop our Amazon wishlist — We have a curated Amazon wishlist you can shop from and have items shipped right to our door!
• Donate your talent — Do you knit or crochet? We are looking for talented people to make blankets for our families. A handmade gift goes a long way! For more information, please email us!
FAQS:
Can I donate gently used items?
We will happily take gently used baby toys, books, strollers, and car seats. We ask that you wipe these items down before dropping them off at the Northwest Community Center. Thank you for helping us honor the families whom we serve by ensuring all donations are in excellent condition.
Unfortunately, we do not take used clothing. We recommend taking clothing donations to Vickery Meadow Food Pantry and Clothes Closet.
