After School Program
Are you ready to make a difference in the lives of refugee children? For refugee kids, navigating a new country, culture, and education system can be overwhelming. Many face language barriers, trauma from their experiences, and limited access to educational resources. Our program aims to bridge these gaps, empowering them to succeed in school and beyond. Join our after-school program and become a mentor, advocate, and friend to these young individuals.
All volunteers are REQUIRED to complete a volunteer application to serve at the Northwest Community Center. We REQUIRE all adults to have a cleared background check. Minors are REQUIRED to submit a reference before they can serve. NO WALK-UPS permitted without a current background check on file.
The impact you'll make:
• Empowerment Through Education — Education is key to building a brighter future. By volunteering with our after-school program, you'll have the opportunity to empower refugee children with the knowledge, skills, and confidence they need to succeed academically and beyond.
• Supportive Community — Our after-school program provides a safe and supportive environment where refugee children and youth can thrive. As a volunteer, you'll be part of a caring community that fosters belonging, friendship, and mutual respect.
• Cultural Exchange — Volunteering with refugee children offers a unique opportunity for cultural exchange and understanding. You'll have the chance to learn about different cultures, languages, and traditions while sharing your own experiences and perspectives.
• Mentorship and Role Modeling — Many refugee children and youth lack positive role models and mentors in their lives. As a volunteer, you can make a lasting impact by serving as a mentor and role model, inspiring them to dream big and pursue their goals.
• Building Life Skills — In addition to academic support, our after-school program focuses on building essential life skills such as communication, teamwork, problem-solving, and resilience. By volunteering, you'll help equip refugee children with the tools they need to navigate life's challenges and opportunities.
• Fulfilling Experience — Volunteering with our after-school program is a deeply fulfilling experience that will enrich your life in countless ways. Whether it's seeing a child's face light up when they understand a difficult concept or witnessing their confidence grow over time, you'll find joy and meaning in making a difference.
• Flexible Commitment — We understand that everyone has busy schedules, which is why we offer flexible volunteering opportunities. Whether you can spare an hour a week or several hours a month, your time and dedication are invaluable to us and the children we serve.
• Be Part of Something Bigger — By volunteering with our after-school program, you'll be part of a larger movement to support refugee integration and empowerment. Together, we can create a more inclusive and compassionate society where every child has the opportunity to thrive.
